We have some 2012 R2 servers that were not in place upgraded that are syncing fine with WSUS, so it should not be the WSUS server causing the issue.
Any 2012 R2 server that was previously 2008 R2 and upgraded in place is not finding any updates in WSUS. If I use DISM to manually install updates they install fine. I have tried several different SSU updates, regular updates, update rollups, nothing seems to get these servers to find all the updates they need in WSUS.
This is happening on multiple networks we have. Also, our 2016 servers that were in place upgraded from 2012 R2 also have a similar issue - you must manually install a rollup using DISM before the server finds updates in WSUS.
This is a big issue because the servers will just sit there for months without patching correctly.
