Issues upgrading from XP to 8.1

Trying to upgrade from Vista to 8.1

SO FAR I have 2 sets of software, 64 & 32 bit. In attempt to run the upgrade from disc, It is telling me I need 7 before I can go up to 8.1.

Any way around this money pit?????
