Windows Vista Recovery

I suddenly have a bootup problem with Windows Vista. I get the following error message "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

etc, etc. ending with technical information: 0x000000ED, 0x852CE030 etc.....

I have tried F8. It does not list Repair your computer. I tried Safe Mode and Command Prompt. Both start running drivers, stop about 2 pages down and immediately go back to the original error message.

Can I load the Reinstall DVD and repair my pc or will it set my pc back to the original manufacturers settings?

I don't need to save the pc, but I do need to save the data. I am currently moving my data to a new pc with Windows 365. Unfortunately I'm only 70% complete with the data transfer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
