Hi,
We've just downloaded a piece of software called Nimbus Control Consultants
Edition 2007 (Process Mapping and Performance Management software) to
evaluate.
As our users don't have local admin rights, I installed it for them using
the Runas command. The install worked fine, but when the user opened the
application for the first time they got the following error:
"Unable to start using Control 2007 because you have insufficient privileges
to the control 2007 data folder "C:\Program Files\Control
Consultants\Process Repository\". The network administrator will need to
update your privileges before you can use Control 2007. In particular you
currently have insufficient privileges to the 'DocRegistry' folder and/or
'Users' folder."
I got rid of this error by giving the user write access to the 2 stated
directories 'DocRegistry' & 'Users'. But then the user was asked to register
the software, which they tried to do by phoning the sales/support line,
quoting a 25 digit activation code, then entering another code into the
software, but again they got an access error about writing a reg.dat file to
one of the other sub directories, the support/sales rep on the other end of
the line told her that she would basically require admin rights to continue
the activation.. So for now I've just given the user write access to the
entire application directory.
I've never seen this kind of behaviour in an application before, not being
able to write files to its own subdirectories. Is this caused by me
installing the application as a different user to the one logged on/using
the software, or is it just badly written software?
