Opening a WMV file

I sent a couple of WMV file to a friend of mine and when the arrived to his
W98 computer, the files had a PDF icon in front of it and would open Adobe
when it was double clicked on, only to get an error message from Adobe. The
file could be run if you open WMP first then direct it to the file to be
played?
It has been a while for me on W98 but I cannot remember how to get the OPEN
WITH menu up to change the file? Any help would be appreciated?? Thanks

While holding the Shift key down, click on the filename. Then scroll to
the desired application to be used to open the file, and select ok.
