Hi guys,
I have an issue which has been bugging me since early November 17', so I have come here for help!In early November, a handful of our servers started completing backup jobs with errors, due to the 'system state' not being backed up. I logged a ticket with my Backup vendor who pointed me in the direction of the 'system writer'.
We determined that because the 'system writer' was not listed on the system, that was the reason for the backups failing.
Sure enough, a reboot would resolve the issue, and the 'system writer' writer would return. Also, a restart of the cryptographic services would also return the 'system writer'
So, I can temporarily get the 'system writer' to come back, and I can backup the system state successfully, however it keeps disappearing.
I've trawled through the event logs also, and cannot find anything related to this.
I was leaning towards a Windows Update which perhaps was released in early November due to the servers all running into the issue all around the same time. I have also read that this can happen due to the /windows/Microsoft.NET directory containing too many files and folders causing the system state backup to fail which is why I though it may be related to a Windows update but I cannot seem to narrow down the update.
If anyone has run into this issue or has any suggestions, any help would be much appreciated.
