Resetting device

I am trying to rest my windows pro 8 device. I clicked the ipdate and recovery, i got a message saying that i needed windows media or recovery drive. I dowloaded windows media on the local drive and created a recovery usb from both microsoft support pages. Now it says my recovery usb is invalid. What do i need to do now?
