I have a Windows server 2012R2 that is having an issue where random system buttons have been replaced with a rectangular box - For example, on the main 'CTRL+ALT DEL' screen, the 'ease of access' button is just a box. On the login screen, the 'Back' button to the left of the users 'picture' is two boxes. Once signed in, in the start menu, the 'Power Options' and 'Search' buttons in the upper right corner are each a box, and in the lower left corner, the 'down' button that takes you to the installed applications is one and a half boxes (half of the second box is apparently cut off by the size constraints of the button.
I've tried rebooting, Windows update to make sure no updates that might have caused it were missing, ran SFC /scannow, tried steps to rebuild my users icon cache, all with no change. This affects all users, even users that have never logged in to the machine before.
I've attached some examples of what I'm seeing - does anyone have any idea what could have caused it and how it might be resolved?
