File History Error

I'm doing this because I'm very desperate. I had to reformat my File History drive. Since then I've gotten the indication that F.H. doesn't recognize the drive due to "unknown error". I've finally got it narrowed down to error 80040301. I then turned to asking of Microsoft to help pertaining this error and was directed that some (most) cases were 'locked'. Now what to do? Windows 8.1 (up to date), running on NIXSYS (don't laugh) NX-P61 [Intel Core i7-3770 3.40GHz Quad Core 5.0GT/s] /w 8Gb memory.
