Ishai Sagi
Hi,
I have a home network with 3 computers (2 with vista, one with XP) and
one xbox, all connected through a router (netgear, all wired except
one vista machine that is wireless).
Until yesterday, everything worked ok. I then reinstalled vista on one
of my machines, and since then, both of my vista machines are
incapable of stable internet browsing.
The simptoms are :
1. I can get to google or any google site (like gmail) - no problem.
2. 95% of other sites, IE just loads and loads the page ("waiting
for ....") and nothing happens. The header of the IE window does
sometimes change to the title of the web site, which means I am
getting some data back, but then it gets stuck?
3. every now and then I find a site that does work on these machines.
4. remote desktop to my office works on these machines with no hitch
5. connection within my network works perfect.
6. my XP machine has not problem browsing at all.
If I connect my modem directly to one of the vista machines, it has no
problem browsing everywhere. So I am guessing something in the router
is messing with my setup - any idea?
more data:
I have nothing set in my IE settings (no proxy, no detect settings).
I don't have port triggering set up
I have port forwarding set up for the xbox to get to xbox live
(works), and for the XP machine to get emule ports.
I have tried cleaning my hosts file and flushing the DNS
I look in my router logs and see the request to the site going out
with "allowed":

help! why is it my vista machines that have the trouble? why can I get
to google-related sites but not to others?
stranger still- I found now that when I ping microsoft.com from my
vista and from my XP machine I get different IP addresses, and my
vista machine does get a ping response, while my XP doesnt. But in IE,
the vista machine doesn't open the site, while the XP does!
arrrrggghhh!
