Setting up Server Core 2016 on new server and having trouble with the network adapter profile. When the IP is static, the network is coming up as "Unidentified network" and the NetworkCategory is being set to "Public":
When the IP is obtained from DHCP, the domain network is detected and the NetworkCategory is set to "DomainAuthenticated", which is what I want:
If I restart the Network Location Awareness service after the server has booted with static IP, then it detects the domain network and changes NetworkCategory from Public to DomainAuthenticated.
I've set nlasvc.exe to Delayed-AutoStart, tried various other hacks to get it to work, but no luck. It's definitely taking the NIC some time to come online with static IP, I get the logon prompt and am able to enter my Windows credentials all before I'm able to ping the server from another machine. Also, if I run "Get-NetConnectionProfile" as soon as I get to a command prompt, my "IPv4Connectivity" says "NoTraffic". About 10 seconds after logging in, it changes to "Internet" but NetworkCategory has already been set to Public by then and I have to restart nlasvc.exe to change it to DomainAuthenticated. Any suggestions?
