Hi Irwin,

Yes there is, but I would recommend leaving it on. It helps to notify
you in case a program tries to run and/or change something without you
noticing.

If you must, then this link below will show you how. You might try
this section first:

"Elevate Administrators Priveledge Level :"

If it still bugs you to much, then just disable it.

Hope this helps,

I use a very complete array of Vista features (sidebar, Aero,
etc.), and many diverse apps including some archaic things that
we did in-house 10-12 years ago. UAC was annoying at first, but
we tolerated it. Once everything was set up and running, I
stopped seeing UAC except perhaps on one out of five new app
installs.

From our viewpoint, it's acceptable.

Yes, like a lot questions here, you could easily have answered it
yourself by clicking on Help and typing in UAC.

You'll find that when you first install Vista, it's probably a good
idea to turn off UAC while you're installing programs and then turning
it back on. If you get a bunch of blocked program messages during
startup, you can remove those programs from the startup menu and start
them with the task scheduler. Here's how:

I turned UAC off at first, then tried to turn it back on, but found a lot of
my most used programs no longer worked at all. Now I just leave UAC off.
Was easier than jumping through hoops that never should have been there.

Would be a lot better if I could set it like I do my firewall software and
force UAC to always allow, allow this time only or never allow a function as
I see fit. But no matter how many times I have told UAC that playing chess
is okay, it just keeps asking me if I really want to. Maybe it knows I am
only going to lose again and would like to save me from the agony of
defeat...
