Windows XP SP2 Laptop won't connect to WiFi

Hello,

Last week I dug my old Alienware laptop out from the stuff because my newer Asus died. Anyway, it had several problems that had appeared since I put it down. First, I couldn't use the internet because some protocols were expired, but I quickly fixed that just by installing Chrome and setting the system time to current.

However, one issue remains. The computer has a built-in Intel wireless network receiver, the networks show up, I can enter the passcode, but then it stays on ''Waiting for network'' until the window just closes and the WiFi it's not connected. The receiver doesn't show any issues, it is on and enabled.

I have tried to connect to three different routers, password or no password, and also to my phones hotspot. I also took a look at the settings, all seems fine, but I'm no expert.

The internet works fine when connected with an ethernet wire.


It would be really good to get that sorted since I need that computer for school. The computer itself has Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2, it prompts me to update to SP3, but I have a bad experience with older computers and Windows updates.
