Hi gang,

I have a question about an update that appeared when I clicked on the
updates for Adobe 6.Should I download it? If I download it, will it cause
any problems with Windows 98SE?

Help much appreciated.

It can be installed, however, it will increase memory requirements, and may
introduce additional hack points in the Reader environment.
You could install it, then disable pending actual need. Adobe Reader 6 will
not be receiving any future potential fixes as far as I know.

Oh, you asked what it was.

http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/200112/20011206atmos.html

Its a 3-d enhanced web environment.

I haven't ever run across it as far as I remember. So you likely don't need
it.

Perhaps that's why they purchased MacroMedia.

Uninstall atmosphere player

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Program > Adobe Atmosphere
Player

Clean up by running ccleaner or RegSeeker.

Thanks MEB,

I won't install it then.

I also noticed that when I went up to the Adobe downloads it wants people
with 6.01 to upgrade to 6.02. Should I do it?. I only have 6.0. What can the
Adobe Reader 6.02 do that 6.0 does not do?

Actually you can update to version 6.0.6, which is a good idea if you
intend to use Adobe. The version's updates (Reader 6) were, as always, for
security and prog updates to Adobe Reader.
Note though it will increase the space used by the program (in several
areas on your system), and increase the amount of memory used by the
program. However, you can easily disable some of the pluggins included upon
startup, by moving those to the %drive%:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat
6.0\Reader\Optional - folder. Then when you need them, just put them back in
their proper place.

So in short, Yes update. But look to see you need included in the startup
process, as many functions/pluggins are rarely used.

I just updated to 6.01. Thanks for letting me know that I can go up to as
much as 6.06. I will go back later and update to 6.02. I will try what I
downloaded now to see if it works okay. I think it will. I will try it for a
few days first.

You also should consider getting that freebie "PDF SpeedUp" addon, which
really speeds up loading the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Okay, I have used the 6.06 version for quite awhile, and it functions well
[of course I also have FoxIt Reader, and have tested several related
programs, such as PDF creators].
Oh, there are also *pluggin managers* which you can use to disable whatever
pluggins you don't need. I think Glen or someone else posted one or two
awhile ago, perhaps they could re-post them...

I just did. PDF SpeedUp. And it's free, and worked great.
(You run it once and it's done, and Adobe Reader comes up a LOT faster now).

Hi,

I just did all the Adobe Updates. Now I have the Adobe 6.06. This other
stuff about managing it I do not really understand it. I tried to open a PDF
but it did not work. Maybe it is because they used a program that the Adobe
6.06 will not open.

Hmm, right click to see if they reference an Internet address, or whether
they are actual attachments, e.g., they were transferred with your mail.

It should, if on the Internet, show an address. If an actual attachment,
the Paper Clip should show a Save, or Save As

Hi Angel,

If you a referring to copying a link into a post for instance, rt-click on
the underlined link and select "copy shortcut", then go to your document,
rt-click again and select "Paste". See if that works for you. I.e.
www.google.com . Try it with google here, and see if you can "paste" it
into a responding post.
