Where is the Up a level button in Explorer?

S

SS

Hi...

Windows Explorer (file manager) no longer seems to
have the Up Arrow button (to go up a level in your
directory tree).

Why on Earth would MS have removed such a useful
button from the bar?

Is there a way to bring it back?

Vista has a better way of doing this now. Look for the little black
triangles in the address bar at the top of an explorer window. Click on
one and you can navigate to any position in the folder tree that you
have traversed.

Correct.

Unknown, but it's a popular question.

Not as yet, but from the address bar you can simply click on the upper level
folder in the path as a quick workaround.

I agree - the breadcrumbs are not always in view. Alt+Up arrow does it.
Think of Altitude. For more:

My guess is they removed it as it would of been redundant along side
the new address bar.

Vista is not XP, try and adjust your navigation habits to take
advantage of the breadcrumbs in the address bar, you wont regret it.
Once you become use to it you will never want to go back to the old way
of thinking.

Its a totally different structure so the up down arrow is not needed.

Ahhh - I had overlooked the little arrows all this time! That makes things
MUCH better! Thanks, Annie.

the problem with the new breadcrumb thing is there is no way to tell the
difference between 2 explorer windows which have long paths and the end
of the paths have similar folders. The beggining of the path is
truncated!!! See this post on vistarapedme for more info:

http://vistarapedme.com/2007/07/02/explorer-breadcrumb-i-didnt-know-you-had-a-twin/

Personally I wish there was a way to turn off breadcrumbs and add an up
arrow back in so I dont need to move my hands to the keyboard to
navigate. Moving the pointer and clicking on different parts of the bar
or 2 clicks on the arrow on the left of the bar is too slow.
