A common deployment scenario for our small business customers is a physical server running Hyper-V and two virtual machines running Windows Server 2016 - one as a domain controller and one running Remote Desktop Services for their line of business app.
Two of our customers with this setup have a random issue that occurs once every few months after a patch reboot. What happens is the network adaptor "forgets" the DNS server address (the 'Preferred DNS Server' address field is blank). The static IP, subnet mask and default gateway address are all still there, just the DNS server address disappears. You can type in the DNS server IP address and all is well until the problem occurs again a few months later.
I've Googled this problem until I'm blue in the face and not found a solution.
