How to import personal folders from Outlook Express to MS Outlook? Outlook
Express can no open Inbox folder anymore.
Just show: 'Outlook Express could not open this folder. Possible causes are:
Low disk space. Low memory.'

Chances are you won't be able to import the Outlook Express Inbox into Outlook
because the OE Inbox is corrupt.

Close Outlook Express.
Click Start> Find> Files or Folders, search the local hard disks for inbox.dbx
http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/where.htm#findfiles
Rename the file Inbox.dbx to Inboxold.dbx
Open Outlook Express.
A new empty Inbox will bne created.

Move the renamed Inboxold.dbx to a new empty folder on your hard drive, and use one
of these apps to attempt to extract messages from the damaged .dbx file:
DBXtract

Macallan Outlook Express Extraction

Does closing and then reopening OE fix the problem temporarily? I so,
you're not alone. See
http://groups.google.com/group/micr..._frm/thread/1580bf939a915741/cfbfa92eb2640aab

You can export the OE data into OL if both applications are installed. (The
OL experts recommend that you export from OE, not import into OL, for best
results.)

Does it make sence just export from Outlook Express into Outlook? Or
inbox.dbx is corrupted definitely? Closing and then reopening Outlook
Express does not fix the problem.(though this method worked in the past when
I got this issue sometimes). Just remember there was shown error alert a few
times before this issue, it seems it was part of Outlook Express process and
it reffered to some DLL.

Too little information is provided here. The most common
cause of such failure is allowing INBOX.DBX to grow too
large. How big is yours? ("Too large" is very big, 100 or
200 Mb.)

I would NOT export any data from OE into OL at this point. You need to
attempt to recover any messages from Inbox [1] and then address the cause of
the corruption [2].

[1] Recovering messages:

1. Write down the location of your identity's store
(http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm#storemain).

2. Close OE.

3. In Windows Explorer, navigate to your store folder > MOVE Inbox.dbx into
a new Windows folder created for this purpose.

4. Run either of the utitilies below on the moved file. Any messages
recovered (don't set your hopes too high) can be dragged into an open OE
folder.

DBXtract
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx

DBXpress (faster, more powerful, with even greater functionality)
http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx

[2] General OE Caveats:

- Do NOT use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting and frequently perform a manual compact of
all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

the inbox.dbx is 382MB and contains near 1560 emails. I tried DBXtract tool,
it works, but it requires too many time, and if I need take pause and turn
off computer I need start over again, from the beginning - since DBXtract
have no resume. Someone have idea what is approx. time required for
completion dbx file?
How to move extracted EML files to Outlook?
What local folders better use to archive messages - somewhere inside
Outlook(not in Inbox) or outside it?(somewhere on local disk)

I wouldn't bother storing them in Outlook. I'd just drag and drop
them to a folder I made - maybe My Inbox - as individual files. IOW,
I would not have them in one big sequential, coded file like the *.dbx
files are.

Do that and you won't have to worry about the size of the inbox.dbx.
Of course, you'll have to open the folder and click on a file to read
it, you won't be able to browse the lot as you would from a mail
program.

If you just gotta have them in the mail program's inbox, just open the
mail program to its inbox and drag them there after extracting.

Does the same is true for MS Outlook? To store archive somewhere on hard

Sure. You may or may not have to change the file extension from *.eml
to something else, I don't know what Outlook uses.

Please don't refer to Outlook Express as "Oulook" they're not the same
thing.

You're in this situation because you've been using Inbox to archive messages
(and probably haven't been routinely compacting all OE folders either).

DBXpress will perform the extraction much faster than DBXpress yes, it
costs more. Let the utility you're using run until it's finished.

Again, you can drag any recovered EML files into an open OE folder.

Create new local folders for archiving messages. Inbox.dbx should NEVER get
as large as 382MB!
