Vista needs at least 40Mb so with you other 8Mb you are already needing
another drive.

I'ecus,

It may be System Restore taking up your space for Restore Points. You
can delete all but the last one in Disk Cleanup. Scroll to the bottom
of this link for details on how:

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76073-disk-cleanup.html?ltr=D

You can also check to see what the maximum space allowed for System
Restore is and adjust it if needed. Here is the link on how to do that.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

For those that have installed Vista on a relatively small drive the
fast way to free up room is right click on the your C drive,
properties, then click on Disk Clean up button that's right of the pie
chart.

When you first click on the button it just does a scan so you don't
have to do all it suggests. If you do a lot of web surfing Temp
Internet files can eat up a lot of space. If you've "deleted" a lot of
files you should known that they still take up space in the Recycle
Bin until you EMPTY it. So if you got 20 MB of junk in there all from
your C drive emptying the Recycle Bin will give you 20 MB back quick.
Thumbnails can eat up a lot of space as can other temp files.

Use advanced search and look for ALL your .tmp files. Generally it is
safe to delete all of them if at least 24 hours old or back to
whenever you last booted the system. Other categories depend on how
you use your system. If you're really tight for space you can move
your paging file (what used to be called the Swap File) to some other
partition. Windows Help gives you the step by step. That should free
up at least another 1-2 GB. You can also remove older Restore Points.
If you had Vista up and running for months I can't think of any valid
reason you would ever go back more than a month and rarely that so any
restore point older can be shown the door.

I d/led some post but I guess all of it didn't come down, there was
someone else who posted about disk space but I can't get all of the msg.

I have a 37gig drive, I just installed a clean copy of vista enterprise.
My program files are 3.61GB my entire user directory is 4.41GB and my
windows is 30.4MB. Is there a way or a program I can get to help me find
what's taken all of my space?

thanks for the reply but I have my drive partitioned. Vista needs 40gb
to install but that doesn't answer the fact in the files I listed i'm
barely using 12GIG but i'm done to only 9gig free
