Switching between HDD and SSD, now facing weird problems?

Hello, I have a Sony VAIO SVE14A27CXH with Windows 8.1 installed on my HDD. And I just installed Windows 8.0 on a SSD (same computer, using my Sony Recovery disks).

After I installed Windows 8.0 on the SSD, I plugged in my HDD via USB to transfer my files to the SSD. But I kept getting errors from the HDD, "Folder Access Denied."

So I took out my SSD and put my HDD back in to boot from it.

1. The first thing I noticed was Google Chrome had an error signing me in, and all my extensions crashed. It would not let me repair them or re-download them from the Chrome store.

2. Then I went to Add or Remove Programs, but instead I got an error. (It worked now though.)

3. When I went to rescue my files by copying them from the internal HDD to a flash drive, it still said, "Folder Access Denied"! I changed the owner of each folder (music, pictures, videos, documents) to "Everyone" and it is now letting me copy the files.

4. OneNote app is not opening, and I am worried that I will discover much more problems than these.

  • Just got the error, "The remote procedure call failed" when trying to opening PDF files with Reader.

Why did these weird things happen? I would like to be able to use my HDD as well as it had been working before. It is my backup in case my SSD crashes. Should I just do system restore on it?

Also, I was planning on installing Windows 10 on another old hard drive (that I don't care about) for an experiment. But if my computer is going to have problems when I swap out the drives, I don't know that I should risk it. Help?
