Windows 10—Build 1809—Update Feb, 2019 —Default Apps Options in Settings UI
Where can I report a Major Flaw in Default Apps in Settings UI not having an option to Open a program on the computer and only going to Microsoft Store for an app?
I have had this problem before. URL is not getting assigned to my Installed browser, and had to use Windows 10 Edge Deflector, to open up my Default Browser, which is Chrome. This to me is the very same concept that MS got sued for back in the day about Internet Explorer.
File is bookmark/internet shortcut, let us say, bing.url . A person can Open properties on it, and assign a program to open it, typically on any file with any extension, however, there is no option for this for a file ending in URL.
When I go to Control Panel , default Apps, redirects you to Settings UI>Default apps section. In Settings, you have Default by File type, by App, and by Protocol. When you try to use pick a program, there only option to pick is Finding an APP in Microsoft Store, for this, and any other extension. And one of these options, By FIle TYPE, only gives me INTERNET BROWSER as an option.
My default Browser is Chrome, and I have to Manually set it in the Registry. What you fail to realize, why would someone go to MS store to get an APP there for the other two options, by Protocol or by App. By File type, doesn't even give me that option, just Internet Browser. I am want to use a PORTABLE Web Browser as my Default app. How can one do that if it doesn't even have an option to pick it. In the OLDER VERSIONS of windows, this was an option, but not anymore. Even after I used 3rd Party File type manager for .url , a URL file would not open in Chrome, but HTML would. URL would only open in IE, and then I disabled IE, in control panel, and Edge Opens up URL files.
Forcing us to use MS STORE APPS as our only selection to search for and assign an app and not allowing us to change the URL assignment either is really pathetic. I am contemplating contacting the news channels so they can report this negligence to the consumer. I have been reporting this and other problems to ms FEEDBACK FOR A LONG TIME, AND MY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE OS are now fixed, but it took MS four years to fix them. People should not have to pay, for a Work IN progress, and I mean the RETAIL Version released to the Public for Retail is a work in progress. I consider Windows 8 to 10, a half **** wanna be OS that is lacking in function as their creators are lacking in compentence.
