My Vivotab Smart 32 bit Windows 8.1 started turning itself off withing about 20 seconds of booting after upgrading Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. It worked perfectly before the upgrade so I don't think it's a hardware issue. I read in another *post in this forum that it may be due to the optional update mentioned on that page. I didn't install any optional updates, to my knowledge, I only selected the Windows 8.1 upgrade and let the computer download and install it then reboot by itself. The problem started immediately after that.
I can't get the tablet to recognize any USB keyboard (connected with an OTG cable) or BT keyboard, so holding Shift-F8 to try to get it to boot into Safe Mode doesn't work, and it doesn't stay running long enough for me to start msconfig and select a boot mode restart. And in the Advanced Troubleshooting options where you can select Restart options using the number keys or numbered Function keys (F1-F12), the tablet keyboard doesn't come up when you tap on the screen, and since the tablet isn't seeing any of my USB/BT keyboards I can't select any reboot option.
My questions are:
1. Is it possible that the update some people have had problems with got installed along with the upgrade.
2. What else can I try to get my tablet to restart in Safe Mode so I can look for the problem update and uninstall it if it did get installed?
3. If I am able to use a Windows 8 restore point (I created 2 manally before the upgrade) to downgrade it back to Windows 8, is it possible to install the Windows 8.1RT upgrade without any updates that may come bundled with it?
4. If I boot to a command prompt in the Advanced Repair Options can I just manually delete the file(s) associated with the problematic update, if I can find their filenames, to fix this, if this is indeed the source of the problem?
