Power pivot

Two months ago I was able to conduct a power pivot table pulling numbers from 12 twelve separate files. I believe Microsoft conducted an update and I am no longer able to use the power pivot in this way. How do I conduct a power pivot table, pulling numbers from multiple excel files?
