Send/Recv Outlook Express

I have Outlook Express lately I can not Send/Recv email a second time only
if I close Outlook Express and reopen. If I click the Send/Recv button it
the box comes up for a second and disappears.

I made A very big bubo. I found the inbox.dbx file and changed it to
inbox.old and restarted my computer. Now it is working but I am trying to
get back my old messages so I changed it back to inbox.dbx but I still can
not retrieve those messages.
