We currently have an old KMS server that is used for licensing windows workstations that is server 2008 R2. It will be upgraded at some point to 2016. However, we are interested in knowing if having 2 kms servers will cause any issues in our domain.
From what I've read so far when you have multiple it will round robin to the first KMS server a machine sees. This old server has been giving us some problems licensing windows server on a few servers(it is run by another department).
So we are interested in running our own KMS server for licensing our servers. Will setting up the Volume licensing role WITHOUT publishing the DNS SRV record allow us to manually add this KMS server to the machines we choose? So that we can license our own servers manually with this new KMS server and ignore the discovered one on the network?
