Second monitor wont display

I recently bought an lcd monitor that I wanted to hook up to my laptop to extend the desktop to. When I hooked it up and went under the display setting an enabled it, nothing happened. The monitor continues to say "No Input Signal" I've tried to update drivers and searched for answers but can't figure it out. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. I'm running the Intel Graphics 945GM graphics driver. Any suggestions would be appreciated
