must re install xp everytime i turn my coputer off

recently bought 2006 computer hoping for xp. computer had pirate version of windows 7. I rebooted computer and I think removed windows 7. I have the original install xp disk for the computer. installed xp and seemed to be ok. but if I turn off the computer or restart it I have to re install xp. why doesn't the computer remember the xp os?
