I am using Windows 8 OS and recently I am facing problem with bringing my External Hard Disk online. First, the disk doesn't show itself in My Computer. So I had to look for it through My computer (right click)> Manage> Storage> Disk Management> Actions> More actions> Rescan disks. Once I saw the status of the disk as 'Disk 1, Unknown, Not initialized', I right clicked on it, and saw that the disk is 'Offline'. Now to bring it online, I clicked the 'Offline' button and waited for a while. At last a dialogue box showing 'This device is not ready' appeared on the screen.
I have tried to initialize the disk, though I would have to loose all the data in the disk, ending up with the same message. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling USB drivers, and driver chipsets. Also all the other driver properties seem to be fine. I even tried to plug the hard disk to other computers with other OSs, but noting worked. My 16 GB pendrive has no trouble in connecting ever. Hard drives of other people also get connected to my PC just fine.
Can anyone please suggest how to 'make the device ready'?
