I have physical host (n.2 socket, n.10 core/socket) which run virtual machines, for this host It's available a Windows server 2012 Datacenter ROK license which cover n.2 sockets.
Company sold me n.10 9EA-00233 licenses which are only software assurance for Microsoft Windows Server Datacenter 2016 Core Gov (type: 2 core) which live is 2 years and It covers 20 cores. Company says It's an UPGRADE for base license (Windows 2012 datacenter R2 - ROK)
This upgrade has been necessary because when licenses were bought, licensing was changing from win 2012 to 2016 infact criteria was moving socket criteria to core criteria. It has been said that software assurance guarantees this upgrade to new core criteria. This upgrade is formally right from Win 2012 ROK by Software assurance ?
Now Software assurance is expired, so I ask myself what license I have for my host? For Core or Socket ?
