Windows XP

I don't know whether XP is a pariah subject, but I've found out that it's still being used by a lot of folk who, as I do, use older software that will not work on Win 7.

I was quite happily working on XP (32-bit Home Ed. guesting on VMware) when I found that Windows Defender would not Update. I'm told by 3rd Party Help pages that it won't ever again - guess who went through all the repair stuff before finding that out - therefore I've removed it so it won't clog up the pc o/s with trying. 365 Security free version does a good job in the place of MSSE and Win Def.

The next horror was IE8. It won't show up properly on the screen or do anything it used to do. Advice? "Mozilla Firefox will still support XP". I installed it, but it keeps nagging that it can't update IE8; that's O.K. as I don't use it as such on XP. 3rd Party software updates alright, and Firefox actually will update out-of-date software (it's quicker to take a note of the items and download them on Win 7). I haven't put XP as VMware guest on my Win 10 pc because the TV screen is too far away for careful COREL Graphics work - just presbyopia. All the .Net Framework software will repair and update; MS doesn't discriminate against 32-bit software as later than XP still use it.
