Hi,
Last weekend I encountered serious network issues with my Hyper-V server (Svr 2016). I have 3 Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit adaptors configured in NIC Team (Switch Independent, Hyper-V Port Load Balancing mode). Event Viewer shows hundreds of entries for Event 25:
The MAC address D0-67-34-BA-98-52 has moved from port 50B8A317-005C-4063-9682-232C30A1D230 (Friendly Name: My External Virtual Switch) to port E003781A-F773-42E6-BC8F-235247DD04E1 (Friendly Name: Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver - Virtual Switch_External).
..where it continuously flicks between what appears to be the NIC team adaptor, and the adaptor created for the virtual switch (as seen under Network Connections).
This was followed by a sting of other Warnings and Errors - Event 16949 (Member NIC disconnected), Event 4 (Network Link down on my Broadcom physical adaptors), Event 22 (Media disconnected on my NIC Team adaptor), Event 24 (NIC no longer operational on my NIC Team adaptor), (Event 4367 (Link failure on my Broadcom physical adaptors), at which point the server lost all communication and had to be rebooted.
Since the reboot I haven't had any further issues - but I want to know what the root cause of this was so I can try and prevent it happening again. We are a silver partner with MS and I raised an issue directly with them, but they said because the issue was resolved they couldn't help me (and we can't afford the £50,000 price tag of premier support for RCA cases).
The MS technician said that event 25 is nothing to worry about because it was classed as "Information" and that it's normal behaviour. He said the MAC address is not bound to a physical port and that's why it's flicking between the 2. I understand these 2 are tied together as one entity, but this behaviour seems odd to me - I haven't seen it before or since, and the fact I received hundreds of these before the physical NICs went into melt-down seems far too coincidental.
Does anyone know what causes Event 25, and if it's directly linked to my physical NICs failing please?
