... and "forever" really means forever; I let it run for more than a week.
The server (Windows Server 2012 R2 on physical Dell hardware) successfully installed a bunch of updates on January 1st. Since then, it is no more possible to detect or install updates. Windows Update is "Checking for updates" forever, regardless if running against WSUS or against Microsoft. If I try to install an update manually with WUSA, WUSA is "Searching for installed updates" forever.
I already tried these:
Still no success. Does anyone have an idea what could be the reason?

- ran manual steps from KB971058
- ran DISM /restorehealth
- deleted C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
- deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
- deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
- uninstalled KB3004094
Still no success. Does anyone have an idea what could be the reason?
