I have an issue where a Windows 2016 server is returning the DOS error Invalid FID (error number 6) in response to an SMB Session Setup AndX Request. I see in Wireshark that the request packet is valid, with the correct domain, account, and other information. Even if the password were bad, the server would return an authentication failure (error 5) rather than an invalid FID error.
The CIFS specification doesn't have an Invalid FID error in the error code table in section 2.2.4.53.2, so I don't know how to interpret this error.
Has anyone else encountered this situation? What does an Invalid FID mean in the context of a Session Setup AndX Response?
