Log Off question...

Good evening,

When I did a fresh clean install of Windows 98 SE, the final step was to
enter a password on the startup/logon screen, with a message that said, "Tip,
if you don't enter a password, you won't get this promp again". I have never
entered a password, so that Windows will load as soon as I turn on my
computer without me having to log on. I like it that way, since my computer
is only for home use and only my wife and I use it. There's no need for a
password. (Besides, from what I remember, you can simply hit cancel and
Windows will load without the correct password)

Now...there's a log off option in the start menu. What would happen if I
selected that option? Would that mean from that time on, I would be
presented with a logon screen?

How about this question...What if I do decide to create a profile in which
Windows will always ask for a password in order to load...Can I use TweakUI
to remember the password so that I will not have to enter it and Windows will
automatically load?

Thanks and I hope this all makes sense!

You have answered all your own questions! If you select "Log off [user]..."
then you will end up at a login page with [user] in the username field. If
you hit enter without setting a password, nothing will change from your
previous settings. That is, the next time you start your computer, you will
not be given a login page...Windows will just load automatically. However,
if you do select a password, you will need to enter the password to get
access to that particular login. But it really does nothing anyway, since
it's as you said...you can simply hit cancel and Windows will bypass the
login screen and load normally.

And yes, TweakUI will remember a userID and password so that you don't have
to type it in.
