screen resolution for hdmi ouput to older TV

How do I get my Dell laptop to output 1080i on its hdmi output? It is doing what seemingly all the streamers do: outputting its HD in 1080p, which my older CRT based TV cannot get. It cannot receive and interpret anything progressive, including 480p,720p and 1080p, Its only HD is 1080i.
