Shut down is stopped by acrobat reader

When I try to shut down Vista, it tells me that it can't shut down because a
document is open in acrobat reader. The application is not visible, but does
show up in the Task Manager as a process. Why does this happen? can I stop
it? how?

Thanks

Uninstall all versions of Adobe (Acrobat) Reader and then either install the
newest version from Adobe or install Foxit:
Foxit: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Start> Run> type msconfig
In the Startup tab, uncheck the reader. Restart the computer.

Alternatively, uninstall the Adobe Reader (59.9MB) and install the FREE
Foxit Reader from http://www.foxitsoftware.com (3.9MB)

In Task Manager, right-click the process running on the Processes tab and
choose End Process. I've noticed Acrobat Reader sometimes continues to run
if you've opened a .pdf file in Internet Explorer, even if IE is shut down.
