XP Logon Authentication

I came to a branch location to install a new router, but while you're
here... This question came up. (They claim) Suddenly in the middle
of the day (of course the day of my arrival), when the user logged on
after lunch that their Home directory (H:) failed to show up. Now I
know XP stores like the last 10 successful login attempts and then if
there is no DC to authenticate against, XP goes ahead and logs in,
without notifying you. So I tried the usual reboot, check TCP
setting, firewalls, etc. Finally, I decided to go ahead with a 'net
use' command to locate the server. This came back successful and I
could now map her H:. BUT, if I logged off the local system and
logged back in, the H: was still not available until I did another
'net use' command. I'm not at all familiar with their system but
curious, any suggestions?
