ERUNT warning on Vista.

Hi,

I just got a new laptop, so I took a chance restoring the registry on my
old Vista laptop using ERUNT. After restore Vista wouldn't boot at all. I
think I have seen here that people have done it successfully on Vista, but
I experienced complete disaster. I had to restore the disk using the
manufacturer recovery DVDs.

So be caureful restoring your registry with ERUNT on Vista without a good
back-up or on a machine you rely on.

I do not even know how many times ERUNT has saved my a** on XP. I really
hope we will see the program for Vista in the near future (even though it
seems like Windows own System Restore has gotten better).

Why use a program that tells you it will work up to and including XP for a
totally new operating system. And why did you need a restore so soon. These
are questions anyone would ask?

The reason I mention it is that this program has been discussed on this
newsgroup, and people have been trying to run it on Vista. It's possible to
create back-ups with it, but obviously not to restore them. Finally, on the
ERUNT home page Vista is listed as supported:

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

So regardless of what you think "anyone would ask" I repeat my warning when
it comes to restoring the registry with ERUNT.

Also, if you read my post I did it as an experiment on my *old* laptop. I'm
sure there's people here who are trying to run ERUNT on Vista since it's
been a favorite on XP for years.

ERUNT has been rock solid on XP for years and a much better soluton than
windows own system restore.

And Vista is a "totally new operating system"? Sure! In my opinion is more
of the same with some added clutter and some improvemnt thrown in here and
there. There's a lot of older Windows programs that runs on Vista without
specifically say it does. I'm pretty sure there's people who will try to
run these. I'm running several of those without any problems at all. In
fact, I have much more problems with a few "Vista Ready" programs I've been
testing.

Dear friends:

I like ERUNT very much, I use it to backup my Vista installation, but
I have never used it to restore a previous ERUNT backup up to now.

But a couple of days ago, I had a Vista problem, and I needed to
restore a previous backup taken by WinRescue, another program I like
very much, and that I am testing its Vista version. The result was
excellent, no problems at all.

So, maybe WinRescue should be the choice for Vista.

I'll check out WinRescue. Thank you for the tip.

The only problem is that WinRescue for Vista costs US$ 24 and ERUNT is
free. But, after it did the correct work for me, I was happy to pay
that amount.
