Win7 Professional (x64) wont boot in any mode.

Hi,

I took the plunge yesterday and started the upgrade to Win10.

Tried to take all the necessary precautions but found out a 2.5TB+ WD wont support a Win7 iso so my system image backup went out the window, thankfully I backed up everything of importance anyway.

The steps taken that landed me where I am now:

  1. Created a boot drive for Win10 Enterprise (x64)
  2. Disabled ESSET NOD 32 which is unsupported on Win10
  3. Restarted my machine, altered the boot order in the BIOS to prioritise USB
  4. Booted the Win10 setup. Got a message stating an in place upgrade can't be done from a USB drive
  5. Booted into Standard Windows 7
  6. Copied the content of the USB drive to the desktop and started the launcher (pretty sure the USB was still connected at this point)
  7. Entered the product key, followed the wizard and my system went for its first reboot
  8. When it came backup there was a dialog stating Win10 could not be installed because of a connected SD card or USB storage device and my setup will be reverted back to Win7.Digital Trend - Win10 update blocked due to USB. Progress messages stated that config changes were being reverted to the before upgrade state.
  9. Win7 then failed to boot and presented me with a BSOD stating:fe24befd-90db-455c-9f35-16e90556b048?upload=true.png
  10. I was able to get into Safe Mode with Networking after this
  11. Ran src /scannow from cmdline, nothing raised
  12. Went to C: > Properties > Tools > Check now and scheduled this on next startup
  13. Disabled the automatic restart at blue screen so that I could actually get a look at it!
  14. Now the machine will boot 1st time and hit the BSOD, on second attempt it will go to run chkdsk and after that it allows me to select how I want to boot. Start Normally takes me back to the BSOD, any of the Safe Mode options hang here before going back to the BSOD:

  16. Tried booting from my Win7 Install CD and running the Repair Tools, only thing I get from the Repair Startup is to check if I recently installed a new camera etc...

So that's my story, if anyone has any nuggets of wisdom they could share that could possibly prevent me the hardship of just having to bite the bullet and going for a clean install, it would be greatly appreciated.
