I have a server, a HP ProLiant ML10 Gen9, running Windows Server 2016 Standard. The server has four hard disks in a RAID 5 configuration, managed bya SATA RAID controller built-into the motherboard.
In Device Manager, under Disk Drives, I see Intel Raid 5 Volume and on the Policies tab of the Properties dialogue box there is an option to "Enable write caching on the device". If this is disabled the server's performance drops off considerably and users report long delays in reading and writing files from and to the server.
Unfortunately, write caching on the device mysteriously and randomly disables itself, from time to time. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can stop this?
Kind regards
David
