Hi,
I'm looking for some advice and a second opinion. I know Vista is outdated and no longer supported. I'm looking to upgrade to Windows 10. I checked the Dell website and they haven't tested my model for compatibility with Windows 10, it's an older system but top of the line when it came out.
Here are my system specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 2
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @3.16GHz 3.34 GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB
32-bit Operating System
500 GB hard drive with 266 GB free (actually a RAID array, 2 mirrored hard drives)
I asked an IT guy I know if my system would be able to run Windows 10, he said yes but only the 32-bit version due to the amount of RAM I have.
I want to be sure I can go ahead with purchasing Windows 10 to do a clean install. I know I'll have to back up my hard drive beforehand so I can reinstall all the documents I have created over time. Is there anything else I need to be mindful of before moving forward? Any advice about anything I'm overlooking or not thinking I'll need to do? Is the 64-bit version better/more secure? How much would I need up add/upgrade my RAM to for the 64-bit version? Lastly, would you purchase from a box store or Microsoft direct? I've been told not to buy on the bay since those are most likely illegal copies, even the DVD versions.
Any advice is great appreciated. I'm not afraid to install more RAM if needed, I just installed a new graphics card {Radeon R5 220) not too long ago.
Thanks,
Barbara
