Windows vista asking password for unsecured wireless network

Hi, one of my friends is using windows vista on her laptop. Everything else seems fine but she is not able to connect to the unsecured network at our workplace. While trying to solve the issue she also got the error that someone else is using the same IP address as hers'. Any ideas?
