4 bit color

So i just found my old desktop computer and i decided to start it up, the only issue is it boots in 4 bit color mode. Whenever i try to change it to 32 bit color mode, it goes back to 4 bit colors. dont know why this is happening but sometimes when i turn it off and turn it back on, the colors are normal. But at other times, it goes back to 4 bit colors. The computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
