Need help recovering from virus.

Well. Basically i somehow got a virus, i think it was called viruT or
something and it infected all executables on my c: drive (main hard drive).
After this i was prevented from logging on to windows to save any of my
important files so i formatted my D: drive and did a clean install onto it.
From this new install i can get to some of my files but the most important
are in My Documents which is protect and just give me an access denied
message when i try opening it. The user account i'm trying to get on wasn't
passworded, but was protected anyway and i would love to have those files
back. Is there any hope of would i have to just give up?
