Serial/USB Cable Difficulty

I have a Belkin serial/usb cable and it works fine most of the time. If I
try it with program A, it works fine as com3. If I use it on program B,
without A around, as com3, it fails. I bought a Cables Unlimited ser/usb
cable, and it fails the same way. It always fails with B. Someone told me
that w2k is not quite so friendly with drivers as XP, and that in this
instance it may require tampering with BIOS. Comments?

Try a different USB/SERIAL cable. Make sure
it uses a different chipset than the one you have.

They are NOT all the same...
