I have a mixed environment of Server 2008 R2/2012/2012 R2/2016 servers. I built a new WSUS server in Server 2016 with a dedicated SQL server. All of the 2008 R2/2012 R2/2016 Servers download and install updates fine. However the Server 2012 machines all sit at "Checking for updates" with the Windows Update Service using up excessive amounts of CPU for days at a time with no progress at all. If I revert the VM's to using Microsoft's servers for updates they will download and install updates fine. So far I have been unable to find a solution to this issue. I have too many high priority 2012 VM's so replacing them all with R2 or 2016 is not currently feasible in a timely manner. Does anyone have a solution to this issue? All the "solutions" I've tried, such as deleted the SoftwareDistribution folder do absolutely nothing.
