We have several servers, including file servers and domain controllers, that must be upgraded from Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard OEM (with the GUI) to Server 2019. I have a test network and machine that I want to practice on. The machine that I'm starting with is basically a clean, fully updated installation of 2008 R2 that has been joined to a test domain.
All of the instructions I've seen say that the upgrade to 2019 must begin with upgrading to 2012, and Microsoft's instructions provide links to download evaluation versions of the OS. So I'm beginning with upgrading to 2012 R2 Evaluation. However, when I run setup, it ends with this message:
The setupact.log contains no errors or any indication whatsoever about why, nor is there anything in the Event Log. Can anyone provide any clues about what I might be missing? Is this a problem with upgrading an OEM license to an evaluation license? I'll be very grateful.
