Adding a USB 2.0 card

I have a Pentium III, 1GH computer with Win98SE.
The usb ports are 1.1

Can I add a USB 2.0 card (PCI type)?
I have a slot available, but will 2.0 work with Win98 and on this
older computer?

It seems everything now wants 2.0, although my camera card reader
works on 1.1 even though it says it needs 2.0.

Yes, assuming the card you get has drivers for 98SE. I have that arrangement
here.

With backward compatibility, I'd be surprised to see any USB2 attachment that
didn't function under 1.1 - albeit at 1.1 speeds of course.

If the manufacturer oif the USB 2.0 card provides the driver for 98SE, no
problem. 98 problematic, ME no problem.

FWIW, Dave, I think it also depends on the brand/chip of the USB 2.0 card. I have a
couple here that have never worked with the included USB 2.0 driver for Win98SE.
They only work if I do not install the USB 2.0 driver and just use them as USB 1.1,
with the Enhanced driver missing and appearing as an Unknown device in DM.

I have tried them in multiple computers, both AMD and Pentium, with the same
results. They have the ALi M5273 chip.
YMMV.

Similar with firewire. Seems to be the chip, IE chipmaker, not the driver
that has problems.
