I was trying to install Remote Access on windows server 2012, I get an Error saying the request to add or remove features on the specified server failed. the operation cannot be completed because the server that you specified requires a restart.
when I check the event log I get:
The MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT
I have tried to follow some the following recommendation:
Navigate to Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment and open the 'Log on as a service' policy. Add the following user to the group:
NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID
Restart the server and run through the Add roles and features wizard - it should work.
But unfortunately the Add button and remove button were greyed out. not much I could do.
However I found an easy and a quick fix to the problem, by looking into the local services and under remote registry service and it was disabled, you can enable it by going to properties and change to Automatic startup type. and voila problem solved, you can now install Remote access.
