Windows 2016 Server Remote Desktop Display Fades Out

Whenever I connect to a Windows 2016 server via Remote Desktop, the desktop appears nice and bright.

However, after a few seconds, it fades out and goes so dark it is hard to read. How do I fix this so that the display does not go dark?
