Micrsoft IFS Driver

S

SGB

Hi folks!

My ol' computer has been locking up often lately.
I reboot with Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
When it restarts it reads Microsoft IFS Driver.
Pauses to do whatever, then I get the sign in screen.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance all you wonderful peeps!

See if you can find some relief here, SGB:

This one may be somewhat more appropriate, if the former failed:

This MS KB article covers a couple of IFS issues specific to WinMe and maybe
it *might* point you in the right direction :-

"Error Message: The Following File Is Missing or Corrupted:
C:\Windows\Ifshlp.sys"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258471/en-us

Hey Mart & Harry,

It does show an error message before or after rebooting. The computer just
locks up.

It only reads Microsoft IFS Driver at the top of the screen before the sign
in screen.

Do you think I should still try the things they suggest in the link below?

THANK YOU!

Although it reads "Microsoft IFS Driver" which is not exactly the error
message in the article, it's difficult to determine the cause from here.

There could be some other factors involved, see :-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Installable_File_System

in which case it probably has nothing to do with WinMe but more likely
something that has been installed (or attempted) since WinMe was first
installed. You may have to search your start-up axis in msconfig for clues
for example, or other places (folders, files etc.) What happens if you
start in Safe Mode?

However,

well, it certainly wouldn't do any harm. - And it would eliminate those
potential issues outlined the KB article.

Good luck

Mart

Just a quick note to let you know, I have not ignored your suggestions.
As soon as I can find the time, I will try to fix my computer glitch.
I need to take care of a few other things which popped up right afterwards
that require my attention before I can concentrate on tweaking with my ol'
puter.
I appreciate this group and do not want any of you to think elsewise.
